NOTE: I played the NDS version of the game.
FF4 is the Final Fantasy game that has been haunting me most of my life. When my brother bought it on the SNES I played it until I puked. Well, almost. I was playing so much that one night I got the flu and was having "feverish dreams" about the game, and then I puked, with FF4 on my mind. At the time, I couldn't play it. Years later it came out for Playstation. It was packeged with "Crono Trigger" (in quotes because the loading times were so long that you were loding more than you were playing.... not a joke). I could finnaly play it, but my attention span for RPGs at the time was minimal. So I didn't beat it then. Later, it hit GBA, and I didn't play it at all. So, when it hit the DS, I told myself, once and for all, that I am going to beat that mounderfudger, (I like new words that sound like bad ones)so, I did. To some extent.
Upon purchasing the game, I was told that the DS version went back to the original Japanese difficulty.
Well, I said to myself, it can't be all that bad.
Just to point something out, a friend of mine started playing the GBA version after I started and beat it before me. He beat his copy in a week. Me, in a month. But, in my defence, I was playing other Final Fantasy games. But that's not the whole truth. I don't know if it was just bad planning on my part or what, but my experiance with FF4 was unforgivable. It payed my back for the years that I ignored it with overpowerd bosses, little to no items (that was my bad), and when I got frustrated and did the thing that I really didn't want to do (I used an Action Replay to boost my characters. I don't believe in using AR, with the exception of Pokemon) the bosses still kicked my ass. But, I pulled it off. Not in the best way possable. I did cheat after all. But, damn. I was able to get to the moon as a kid in the SNES version. Not now, on the DS.
I will replay this game, eventually. I do plan on getting it soon on the PSX, so I can complete my collection. (Upon beating it, I sold the DS game.)
FF4 DS rating: 6/10
FF4 nostalgia rating: 9/10
Total: 7/10
