That's right, I'm playing something other than a Final Fantasy game.
And, you know what? It feels good.
I don't quite know what it is that makes me enjoy this game so much. I really think it's because I'm playing so many RPGs right now that blowing stuff up is just fantastic. But then I turn off the game and, well... I could do without it. The game's strength really is in it's physics engine. Blowing up buildings has never been better. And that's pretty much all you do. The missions have very little variety and they tend to repeat themselves several times in every sector.
I'm not a big fan of GTA. I understand why people like it, but the missions are just too... it's all to much of the same. In both games. Drive here. Shoot this. Drive back. Now, drive here.
Now, what's really silly, is that I like sandbox games. But the ones I like are the unpopular ones. I liked Crackdown because you were the super soldier who could jump really high and punch a guy and send him flying. But, even then, the missions were simple and had no variety to it at all. Red Faction: Guerrilla just proves to me that all sandbox games are the same. That sandbox means, "Large open world with two different missions you can play over and over."
But, when all is said and done, Red Faction: Guerrilla is a good game. $60 good? No. It's rental good. You'll have fun while you play it, but when you put it down, there isn't much in the game itself to bring you back.
